I went there to heal my body, my shattered nervous system.

To journey.

To sit in circle and have my shadows and light reflected back to me, in others' shadows and light.

To find a spiritual community, and my anchors within it.

To trust the inner guiding intelligence of my intuition again.

Eights in tarot are all about movement, motion (the two loops of the 8 itself make the infinity symbol.)

But here the figure can't move, they are tied up, a hostage to the swords around them. (The ties are not very tight though, some say the figure could free themselves if they wanted to.)

Swords are the element of air - our mental plane, our habits of thinking and beliefs.

Movement is just as relevant in this card - but here it points to the movement of thought itself.

This week, the Eight of Swords card asks you: what stuck pattern of thought needs to transform - and how?

The suit of swords have a bit of an ominous reputation (and it does present the most challenging journey.)

But swords can also help us. They symbolise power and truth too - the strength of the mind, the reality it creates.

This figure could take any one of these swords and cut their ties.

A new thought can free an old, ingrained one.

1️⃣ Spiritual practices go to the places talking therapy alone cannot reach.

But you still need a safe, grounded therapeutic space to go there. This is at the heart of all my offerings.

2️⃣ Rationality doesn't have all the answers (even when it tells you it does.)

As a psychotherapist most of my client work was dealing with the (ir)rational mind - with all its conditioning, 'shoulds' and critical self-narratives.

Now I know change happens when we can surrender rationality - what we think we know - for the wisdom of the deeper, intuitive self.

3️⃣ The universe is the real therapist

Psychotherapy is a process of listening and reflecting. Bringing things into conscious awareness.

Now I know the universe does this for us all the time. Mostly in ways we are unaware of - synchronicity, signs, our shadows, symptoms, dreams, visions, felt-sense... creativity.

Practices like tarot and sound healing just offer a more direct communication with it.

I like to call it a conversation with the soul.

Look at the little dog in this card. Do you see it barking to warn The Fool off or do you see it encouraging him to jump?

However you see it will reflect different aspects of your inner, intuitive world. Your shadows. Your light. Your conflicts. Your power. And a little guidance from the universe, too.
